Upper-Division Requirements for HDP Majors
- A minimum major GPA of 2.0 is required of all students seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development.
- All upper-division coursework must be completed with a grade of C- or better.
- All courses must be taken for a letter grade; pass grades are not accepted.
- HDP 150, HDP 181 and HDP 191 must be taken in residence.

- HDP 181 - Experimental Projects in Human Development Research
- Prerequisites: HDP 1, statistics, and must be a declared HDP major.
- HDP 191 - Field Research in Human Development
- Prerequisites: HDP 1 & HDP 181. Students must submit the pre-enrollment questionnaire one academic year prior to enrollment. See the HDP 191 page for details.
- Additional Methods Course - Selected from the following approved list:
- ANSC 172 - Life History Seminar and Practicum (formerly ANGN 172)
Prerequisites: Upper-division standing. ANSC121 or concurrent enrollment in ANSC121 and consent of instructor.
- BICD 131 - Embryology Laboratory
Prerequisites: BILD 1; BILD 2 or BIPN 100.
- HDP 115/COMT 115 - Media and Design of Social Learning Contexts
Prerequisite: HDP 1 or COHI 100.
- HDP 135/COMT 116 - Practicum in Child Development
Prerequisite: HDP 1 or COHI 100 or PSYC 101.
- HDP 193 - Advanced Research in Human Development
Prerequisite: HDP 193 must be taken for two quarters to fulfill the third methods course requirement. Please see an HDP academic advisor for further details.
- PSYC 111A or B - Research Methods I or II
Prerequisites: Minimum grade of B in Psychology 60 or equivalent and junior standing. Open to honors students or consent of instructor. Psychology Department stamp required.
- SOC/A 104 - Field Research- Methods of Participant Observation
Prerequisite: SOC/L 60; majors only.
- SOC/A 110A or B - Qualitative Research in Educational Settings
Prerequisite: SOC/L 60; SOC/A 110A is a prerequisite for SOC/A 110B.
