Description of Organization & Responsibilities Casa de Manana is primarily an independent living residence. It provides personalized support services for the senior adult who requires a little extra attention. The residents living in this neighborhood are at the assisted living level and have mild to moderate memory loss.
Check-in Procedure Enter through the Ocean Front, check in with receptionist, please specify who you are here to see and for what purpose. You may get a parking sticker to park at their main lot.
Orientation Yes, please contact your site mentor for an orientation prior to your first visit.

Description of Organization & Responsibilities Fredericka Manor Care Center is a skilled nursing care center. It has longterm care, rehabilitation, and an Alzheimer's unit for its residents. Fredericka is located on 23 acre campus that includes independent assisted living and an Alzheimer's day care center.

Description of Organization & Responsibilities Senior Community Centers is a non-profit organization founded in 1973. Our mission is to provide quality and compassionate services for the survival, health and independence of seniors living in poverty. In 2003 we expanded our services to include permanent, affordable, supportive housing for seniors 62 and older by building 200 units of affordable housing. The residents of the Potiker Senior Family Residence are seniors who have had a history of difficulty maintaining stable housing and, in some cases, have been homeless. The support services located within the housing provide the safety net services needed to assist the most at-risk residents maintain stability. The Potiker Family Senior Residence has just been named as one of the nation's 5 best practice models by the Shelter Partnership.

Description of Organization & Responsibilities

Senior Community Centers is a non-profit organization founded in 1973. Our mission is to provide quality and compassionate services for the survival, health and independence of seniors living in poverty. We provide physical and mental health services, housing assistance, transitional housing, nutrition, socialization and activities. The Broadway Day Center is a senior nutrition program co-located with wraparound safety net services. There is a Transitional Housing Program, Health Promotion/Harm Reduction Program and Cross Cultural Senior Mental Health Program.

Students working at the site will have the opportunity to observe Social Service workers, Nurses, Mental Health workers, the nutrition staff & the activities coordinator.

Shiley Eye Center- Macular Degeneration Outreach Project

Age of Participants Mean age of 80 years old
Description of Organization & Responsibilities Community Ophthalmology reaches out to the elderly people affected by Macular Degeneration and other eye diseases such as Cataracts and Glaucoma. The research is focused on the impact of eye diseases on well-being or quality of life as measured by depression, emotional distress, visual functioning, etc, and on patients' knowledge of their disease and how to cope with it. Students could be involved in any aspect of this program.
Testing Requirements (1) TB test required
(2) Availability on Saturdays
(3) 2 quarter commitment (2nd quarter can be a 199 course, must be consecutive)
(4) Orientation Interview: Be sure to bring a copy of your academic history, a letter of statement explaining what you expect from your research project at the Shiley, why you chose the site, your career goals, and a resume.
